Basically, it lays out that American home sizes are epically larger than any of our European counterparts. It’s no surprise, but not because of our mansions and celebrities and wealth. It’s all about sprawl. Almost any other developed country has sophisticated urban transportation systems, that build up rather than out, whereas the dream of the United States is our own suburb, our own culdesac.

I would much prefer to live in a Tokyo or a Birmingham, England, with a well connected and thoughtful transport system, and walk a little bit more, than being required to travel by car from my house in Grandview to Ohio State.
